During this month of December we prayerfully and joyfully await the coming of Christ, examining ourselves and preparing our souls for this joyful feast! One way we did this at UCE was our recent “Chastity Heals” event on December 1st. An enthusiastic group gathered at St Paul the Apostle Church for a soup supper and talk about how “Chastity Heals” by Dr Kim Dernovsek, co-founder of Universal Chastity Education. Dr Dernovsek discussed how we can learn from Uganda whose people turned to chastity to decrease their incidence of HIV/AIDS as proof that people can change behavior, the proof that chastity does heal, and then she gave a personal invitation to each attendee, “What I can do, I ought to do.”
The evening was sponsored by Universal Chastity Education, Knights of Columbus #12020, and St Paul the Apostle Church. Following the meal and discussion a candlelight procession led to the chapel (see video clip here) where an overnight prayer vigil began. Each hour throughout the night prayers were offered for chastity in our families, society, the Church. Pueblo area churches, clergy and seminarians were prayed for by name. For a photo gallery of the evening, enjoy pictures here. “We want this to be a time for the Christian community to come together very humbly in the spirit of repentance to examine our lives and ask for God’s grace for us to live the way we should live and pray for all of our leadership of all our churches” said Lynn Gimlin,a UCE board member.
