On a recent trip to Tanzania, Africa, a dedicated group of pro-life supporters including Dr & Mrs Dennis & Lynn Gimlin, Mr & Mrs Trent and Sarah Smith, Mrs Hannah Rush, joined co-founders, Drs Ken & Kim Dernovsek of Universal Chastity Education (UCE), headquartered in Pueblo Colorado, in traveling along with local UCE Tanzania teams as they held outreach presentations to youth across Tanzania. The team members instructed and encouraged an incredible 4,427 youth in one week in UCE’s mission: to practice abstinence before marriage as God’s design and healthiest lifestyle, and to remain chaste and faithful to their spouse after marriage! Out of the 4,427 youth who heard the message 3,691 youth gratefully received the message and signed chastity commitment cards!
Why are these outreach efforts needed? Sub-Sahara Africa is home to 70% of the world’s total HIV/AIDS population. With nearly every extended family experiencing a death due to HIV/AIDS, these outreach events are literally saving lives in Africa by stopping the spread of HIV/AIDS among those who choose to live a chaste lifestyle.
Following each instructional chastity outreach, the UCE team encouraged the youth to commit to chastity by making a personal commitment to living a chaste lifestyle and signing their own Chastity Pledge Card. The enthusiasm of the youth and principals alike at each school presentation was amazing! One particular school was noteworthy because the principal himself had signed a UCE Chastity Pledge Card in his youth, sharing how it made a difference in his own life! He invited the UCE team to come to his school so his students could benefit from the positive lifestyle message of chastity too!
During their stay, the US group experienced daily challenges normal to Africa including power outages, primitive facilities, and differing road conditions that made you feel like you were riding a roller coaster at times! One time the group had to walk the rest of the short distance to reach the school since the road was too muddy for the vehicle to pass. The Africans fondly termed walking and sliding on the muddy roads as “dancing without the music!”
Since UCE’s founding in 2004, over 408,000 youth have signed chastity cards in the African countries where UCE maintains permanent outreach teams (Tanzania, Uganda, and Burundi) and in Colorado.
