Iringa, Tanzania- After receiving the UCE message and forming a UCE club at their school, the girls at Ifakara Secondary School were so taken by the message that they asked if they could lead their own outreach to their peers. On September 27th 2012, the UCE club in Ifakara girl’s secondary school prepared for and conducted an outreach to Kilombero secondary school in Ifakara. The team was composed of 14 UCE club members, the UCE team, and the club patron, Mr. Renatus Bengesi. Kilombero secondary school is a coeducation day and boarding school; and has students from form one to form four (around high school age). The team reported that they were received well and that students were prepared for the outreach. Topics presented included: what is UCE, ‘Why wait?’, True Love Waits, and challenges faced by UCE club members. After they presented to the students they answered questions and invited students to sign chastity cards. After hearing the girls speak 235 students committed themselves!
Additionally, in September the Tanzania team reached 4 schools and a total of 486 new commitments were made! The team also opened a new club at Ilula secondary school, and continues to visit UCE clubs in different secondary schools where they have previously held outreaches. The team continues to develop new and innovative ways to utilize the UCE clubs and help young people stay strong in their commitment.
